Tasked with creating a gatefold record sleeve for the single I Got You by Split Enz, I wanted the imagery and colours to really evoke a feeling of confusion and discomfort. To me, the song really spoke about loving someone and not wanting to be with them at the same time. An “I hate you so much I love you” and vice versa. The words I Got You were originally printed in purple ink with handmade stamps, made into the shapes of a middle finger, a hand signing “I love you” in ASL, and a finger heart. This print was also included in the record.
